Mixtape - Super Alchemy

This is a kinda wordy music nerdy post, so if you aren't in that kind of mood, just listen to the songs. Last post I mentioned making single-disc albums out of multi-disc releases. The first one up is Thrice's Alchemy Index, released as 4 different EP's (two at a time), each representing an element (Fire, Water, Air, Earth). I tried to make the tracklist work in order as well, which means some of the songs I really liked were left out, as they didn't have a home amongst the other ones. I had a really hard time deciding which of the sonnets to include(the last song of each EP was written in the style of an English Sonnet, was the personified voice of each respective element examining the shortcomings of humans, and every one ended with the same 3 chords and melody). I almost put the fire sonnet "The Flame Deluge" in, but I felt I couldn't do that without also putting in the earth sonnet "Child of Dust", and I just couldn't fit 4 sonnets in a single album. So other than totally bad scrambled egging the whole elements theme, I think this first try is pretty not bad. I was surprised at how few of the loud, heavy rock songs I put in though. Maybe that stuff was just stronger on other albums.

Days of the week! I'd apologise for thursday, but I think it went past unnecessary to awesome again, and the name of the album was "That's What She Said"

Theme this week is covers that sound significantly different from the originals. Male, Italian Pop-Punk band does Female Barbadian R&B singer's hit song? Yes please. I'm not gonna do a theme every week, I just don't have a lot of new ideas right now.

Family stuff is putting album reviews on hold, please standby and listen to mixtapes in the meantime. This week's theme is: songs my friends thought I would like. Not to say I don't like them. The songs that is.

A few of these are far from new, but hopefully they are new to you, or at least enjoyable. I think I am going to review a rap album for sunday.

Woohah! Back with a new player! Let us see how it goes. R.I.P. One-sided Mixtapes 3 through 8

One-sided mixtape #2

Wooohah, I managed to pick songs this week that all had audio only, so they can all be listened to straight from the blip.fm jobbie on the top right. Now if only I can figure out how to just do a new player every week within the blog post, and be able to upload songs I already have instead hoping I can find them on blip.

edit: BALLS! the Green Day and the Ray LaMontagne don't seem to be working, you have to click on the link to go to my blip page and then they will play. One day... one day.

1. Peacemaker - GREEN DAY: 21st Century Breakdown

2. Moth's Wings - PASSION PIT: Manners

3. Aha! - IMOGEN HEAP: Ellipse

4. Sick Sad Little World - INCUBUS: A Crow Left of the Murder

5. You Are the Best Thing - RAY LaMONTAGNE: Gossip in the Grain

ONE-SIDED MIXTAPE #1!

So along with album reviews, I wanted to post a short playlist each week, without really any description or review of the tracks, just a sampling of what's coming out of my speakers and headphones for the week.

Ideally I would like you to be able to play the whole playlist right from my blog page, and then people can procure the songs they enjoyed in whatever way they like (I will only post stuff that has been officially released by the band in some fashion, so it should be fairly easy to find). In my short search so far for something that would allow me to do that, I haven't been able to do quite what I want.

Right now, there should be a blip.fm thing in the top right corner of the page. It actually works pretty well for the songs that are just audio, but some of the songs I wanted to post only had video posts of the song available, in which case I think you have to click on the link to go to my blip page or something. Let me know how it works, and if you know of an easier way to do this.

5. Satellite - LONGWAVE: Secrets are Sinister
